On 1 December 2015 in Brussels President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with Donald Tusk, President of the European Council.
The meeting discussed the current state and prospects of relations between Tajikistan and the European Union.
"Tajikistan is interested in strengthening of ties with the European Union, its various institutions, the member states of this organization, and we believe the EU as its important and reliable partner in the international arena" - said at the beginning of the conversation President Emomali Rahmon.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the consistent development of relations in political, socio-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, in the field of safety, health, education, rural development, law, society democratization.
In order to improve the socio-economic situation in Afghanistan, strengthening stability and security in the country it was noted the need for the implementation of regionally significant projects and programs, in particular for the construction of roads, railways, power lines, construction of hydraulic structures, creation of powerful enterprises in Tajikistan, which meet the interests of the peoples of the region.
The sides, also giving more attention to issues related to stability and security in Central Asia, the situation in Afghanistan, as well as modern threats and challenges, said that the joint fight against these threats will continue.
