This morning, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon arrived for a working visit to Vahdat City.

The city of Vahdat is an administrative center of republican subordination founded in 1927 under the name of Yangibozor. From 1936 to 1991 the town was called Orjonikidzeobod, from 1993 to 2003 - Kofarnihon, and since 2003 the town was renamed to Vahdat.

The city covers an area of ​​3,7 thousand sq. km. and its population makes up 324, 2 thousand people. The city is situated relatively close to the center of the country and along with the fact that it is linked with the city of Dushanbe by a highway it is also connected with the capital through a railroad with a length of 21 kilometers.

Picturesque Romit Gorge is considered a hallmark of the city of Vahdat and it is announced as tourism and recreation area. This great place today has become a favorite vacation spot of inhabitants of the country and hundreds of foreign tourists.

Vahdat is an agro-industrial town, the industry is considered as one of the main sources of income of the city. Since independence, the development of this sector has played an important role in creating new jobs, replenishment of the state budget in social issues has become an important factor of socio-economic development. The city has 71 industrial plants and workshops, which is 41 more companies to compare with 2000. If the volume of industrial production in 1997 has been 11 million 70 thousand somoni, the figure in 2015 was 77 million 367 thousand Somoni, i.e. increased by 66 mln 297 thousand TJS or by 7 times.

The agrarian economy of the Vahdatis is diversified with cotton, livestock, grain, horticulture and viticulture. The city has 15 dekhkan (individual) farms, the total area of ​​cultivated land in the city is 17587 hectares. Each working visit of Leader of the Nation – Emomali Rahmon plays an important role in improving economic performance in Vahdat City. For example, in 2000 agricultural goods were produced in all economic forms of the city at the amount of 18 thousand. 959 somoni, and in 2015 this figure reached 646 thousand 954 somoni that is for 34,1 times more in comparison with 2000. In the agricultural sector, along with other sectors, special attention is paid to the development of fisheries as a priority and profitable sector.

In the period of independence indicators developed in other areas, including in construction, communications, transportation, service, education, health and culture, as well as favorable conditions for their further development. The number of educational institutions in the city has increased by 34 units compared to 1991 and now stands at 151 institutions.

Over 25 years of independence, the number of health care institutions, including hospitals compared with 1991 increased by 44,4%, hospitals - 87,5%, health centers - 36,2%, the vast majority of hospitals and health centers are equipped with modern medical equipment and technology.

The Government of Tajikistan annually carries out important plans and programs for the development of the city, takes effective measures to improve the quality of life, protect the rights and interests of the people. Implementation of the country's laws, orders and decrees of the President, decisions and orders of the Government of Tajikistan purposefully increases the population welfare indicators. The most important thing for the population of the city, as well as for other inhabitants of the country is creation of the conditions for the choice of life-style, promotion of activities, performance of religious prescriptions.

The creative policy of the Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon holds a special place to promote the development of each region of the republic, including ensuring the steady development of the city of Vahdat. That is why the head of state, despite his busy schedule, each year several times pays a working visit to Vahdat City and gets familiarized with the socio-economic situation of the city. From the first years of independence, the Leader of the Nation – Emomali Rahmon, taking into account today's visit has paid 18 visits to Vahdat City and made great efforts to ensure the development of the city and prosperous life for each resident.

During the instabilities of the first years of independence, this famous city of the country, as well as other regions of the country were engulfed in destructive civil war, when the city became an unsafe place. The city was ruled by the opposition forces and the various groups that have turned it into a place of lawlessness and injustice. It should be noted that the city was renamed Vahdat on the direct initiative of the Leader of the Nation – Emomali Rahmon. It is gratifying that today in the framework of constructive and peaceful policy of the Head of State the residents live in a thriving city in an atmosphere of peace and national unity, pride, prosperity and development of their native land.
