The purpose of this meeting was to consider the need to introduce amendments and additions to the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On the regulation of traditions, celebrations and ceremonies in the Republic of Tajikistan".

After the lapse of one decade it turned out that this law laid the foundation for the protection of values and national culture, regulated religious and folk traditions, specified and clarified national traditions, ceremonies and celebrations, prevented fanaticism, superstition, show-off, superficiality, excessive costs and opened the way for the introduction of a single system and order in the holding of national events.

The President of the country stressed that a number of customs and traditions, because of their high costs, acquired a negative character in society, caused great damage to low-income families and provoked wastefulness.

The head of state noted that despite the measures taken to date, the holding of magnificent weddings and inappropriate costs in the country has not yet been fully eradicated, some citizens still use rituals and customs as a means of showing off and glorification that is alien to the nature of our people and contrary to the spirit of the law.

Therefore, ministries, committees and relevant government departments were instructed to take immediate measures to eliminate the existing shortcomings. Heads of local bodies, representatives of civil society, social scientists and religious associations in cities and districts should also take part in correction of offenses.
