Meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov

The Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan His Excellency Emomali Rahmon received today in the Palace of the Nation the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.

The discussion focused on current state and prospects of development of Tajik-Turkmen relations in the areas of sharing interest.

The interlocutors agreed on the fact that friendly relations between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan date back to centuries and highlighted that today constant political dialogue and the legal-treaty basis between the two countries are at the necessary level.

The two sides stressed the need in activization of the work of Tajik-Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, ensuring of permanent dialogue between business communities and public companies, the establishment of Business Council and the opening of Trade Houses for further expansion of trade, economic and investment ties, including in the context of implementing joint projects on transport and road infrastructure, ensuring regular direct air communication, construction of regional railroads, further enhancing cooperation in the fields of science, education, culture and healthcare.

It was noted with satisfaction that major infrastructure projects, in which both countries participate, are considered to be an important factor for sustainable development and successful integration within the region.

The sides also reviewed the Tajik – Turkmen cooperation within the framework of regional and international organizations, primarily in the context of the common efforts to fight international terrorism and extremism, illicit drug trade, to actively participate in ensuring security and military-political stability in Afghanistan.
