Fifth CICA Summit under the chairmanship of Tajikistan

On June 15, the Fifth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) was held in Dushanbe under the chairmanship of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The heads of state, government and high-ranking representatives of the participating states: Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Egypt, Israel, India, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Cambodia, China, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, the leaders and representatives of the observer states: Indonesia, Philippines, Belarus, Ukraine, the United States of America, Japan, leaders of international organizations and associations of observers and partners: the United Nations (UN), the International Organization for Migration, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Summit’s guest — the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States gathered in “Kokhi Navruz” to attend the Summit.

The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon as a representative of the host country warmly and sincerely welcomed the heads of state and government: the Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Novruz Ismail Oglu Mamedov, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hun Sen, Vice-President of the Republic of Vietnam Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Mohammed Abdul Hamid, President of the Socialist Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena, Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani, President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Jeenbekov, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, heads of authoritative organizations and associations of the world.

Then a ceremony of photographing the head of the host country, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon with the heads of state and delegations took place in Didor and Arzhang halls of “Kokhi Navruz”.

The main venue for the Fifth CICA Summit was chosen colorfully decorated with patterns and carvings Zarandud hall.

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon opened the Fifth CICA Summit, which this time is chaired by Tajikistan, and sincerely welcomed all participants on their arriving to the republic.

The CICA Summit will be covered by 650 domestic and foreign media representatives, including journalists from Tajikistan, China, Canada, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Iran, Cambodia, Turkey, India, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Vietnam, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Iraq and correspondents from a number of Associated Press TV, Al-Jazeera, BBC, Reuters (UK), TV and radio broadcasting company MIR (CIS), Interfax, Russia Today, InfoSCO (SCO), and others.

We will recall that the CICA is an interstate and regional forum, which was established in 1992 with the support of the UN.

The main priority of this summit is to discuss the issues of security and cooperation in Asian continent and contribute to combating terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and transnational crime on a global scale.

CICA’s highest decision-making body is the Summit of Heads of State, which is held every four years.

The last CICA Summit was held on May 21, 2014 in Shanghai, China.

Tajikistan assumed the CICA chairmanship in the autumn of 2018 from China.
