The XII Summit of Head of States and Governments of the Economic Cooperation Organisation member countries has begun its work today in Baku, capital city of the Republic of Azerbaijan, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and leaders of a number of other countries.
In addition, the presidents of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Prime Minister of Turkey, high-level representatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and envoys of other regional and international organizations have arrived in Baku to attend this summit.
The issues related to the development of cooperation in economic, trade, transport, energy, industry, agriculture areas, environmental protection, education, science and technology, health, culture and other will be reviewed at the summit.
The Head of Tajik State Emomali Rahmon, referring to numerous regional projects on transport and energy infrastructure, management of water and energy resources, establishment of free trade zones, creation of favorable climate for free movement of people and free transfer of goods and transport, stated that the Economic Cooperation Organisation and its member states should be active and initiative in their fruitful realization.
It was stressed that this Organisation and its member states can take the initiative on the realization of projects to construct railways and automobile roads, including railway China-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran, power transmission lines, such as CASA-1000, gas transmission pipes and etc.
The Head of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, with reference to the activities of Special Fund of ECO on the revival of Afghanistan and its Action Plan, expressed confidence that this Organisation will support the project to establish the Regional Profession and Technical Centre for Training of Personnel for Economy of Afghanistan in Tajikistan.
