Today, President of the country Emomali Rahmon received the Commander of the Central Command of the United States of America, General Lloyd Austin III.
At the meeting the sides discussed issues of multifaceted cooperation of Tajikistan and the United States, primarily in the fields of defense and regional security.
President Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the conversation, in particular, said "today, bilateral interstate agenda of Tajikistan and the United States covers a variety of issues, however, among them a special place is occupied by issues relating to peace and stability in our region, because they are closely connected with the situation in Afghanistan."
Lloyd Austin III highly appreciated the contribution of Tajikistan to ensuring peace and stability in the Central Asian region and to the promotion of international peacekeeping forces in Afghanistan, on behalf of the American leadership expressed his gratitude to the Head of Tajikistan and the people of the country.
It was stressed that Tajikistan with its key position in the region and an extended line of the border with Afghanistan is at the front position of the fight against the spread of terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and other serious threats.
The commander of the Central Command of the United States reiterated America's strong position with respect to consistent support of Tajikistan's efforts to protect and promote social and political stability, economic development and expansion of fruitful regional cooperation in Central Asia.
At the meeting were also held talks on the current situation and prospects of its development in the hot spots of the Middle East, taking of joint preventive actions against modern threats and challenges, as well as other relevant issues.
