Today, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service Helga Maria Schmid who has arrived in Tajikistan to take part in the High-Level Security Dialogue between the European Union and Central Asian countries.
The meeting addressed the issues related to security cooperation of Tajikistan and other countries of Central Asia with the European Union as well as questions of bilateral cooperation.
Head of state Emomali Rahmon stated in particular: “The European Union can have Tajikistan as its reliable and strategic partner in the geopolitically important region of Central Asia which is in forefront of fight against modern global threats and challenges”.
In her turn, Helga Maria Schmid highly commended the role of Tajikistan in ensuring security and stability in the region of Central Asia and its facilitation of revival of tranquil life in Afghanistan.
With consideration of dependence of regional security on current and future situation of Afghanistan, it was in particular stressed that with the view of maintenance and strengthening of political and socio-economic stability efforts should be taken for implementation of projects aimed at comprehensive development of the region.
Helga Maria Schmid reaffirmed the readiness of the European Union to assist more to Tajikistan and other countries of the region in strengthening of security and stability through the support of economic development and enhancement of the level of well-being of the population.
It was expressed confidence that the scope and areas of bilateral and multilateral cooperation of Tajikistan and the European Union will further expand.
