Today, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Daegu of the Republic of Korea attended and spoke at the 7th World Water Forum.
The Forum is taking place in the complex Expo Korea of Daegu city with the participation of almost 35 thousand persons from more than 170 countries of the world.
Head of state of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon spoke at the opening ceremony of the 7th World Water Forum and once again drew the attention of the world community to the urgent global issues related to pure drinking water.
With reference to reliable estimates, it was in particular mentioned that "already in 2030 almost 50 per cent of the world population will encounter water shortage problems, and up to 2050 water shortage will be more intense".
It was noted with regret that "today the share of hydropower energy in the world electricity generation makes up almost 20 percent and this is in the context when only 45 percent is used from the opportunities of economically profitable hydropower energy".
It was stressed that Tajikistan, availing from the integral chain "water - electricity - food", can make a notable, effective and exemplary contribution to the generation of ecologically safe electricity power, development of green economy, protection of environment, prevention of climate change and supply of vast areas with pure drinking water.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon called upon scientists, experts and investors from all over the world to take part and contribute to the fruitful use of abundant water resources of Tajikistan for the benefit of all peoples of our vast region, and proposed to announce the next decade following 2015 as the second international decade of action "Water for Sustainable Development".
