Meeting with the Chairman of the Executive Government of National Unity of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Dr. Abdullah Abdullah

Today, President Emomali Rahmon received the Chairman of the Executive Government of National Unity of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, who arrived in Tajikistan on an official visit and to attend an international high-level conference on the results of the Decade for Action "Water for Life".

At the meeting the sides discussed issues of multifaceted cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, including in the fields of politics, security, economy, education and other areas.

President Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the conversation said: "Tajikistan has always been and remains committed to the mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation with friendly and brotherly Afghanistan. We strive to ensure that these relations always be at a high level, meet the interests of both sides. Among the countries in the region, we have a special relationship with your country".

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, praising the place of Tajikistan in foreign relations of Afghanistan, stressed that this is his first foreign visit after the presidential elections in Afghanistan and his appointment as Executive Chairman of the Government of National Unity of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

They expressed satisfaction with the legal basis of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, consisting of about 80 documents.

Among the clearest examples of the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries have been named the implementation of 220 kW power transmission line in Tajikistan and Afghanistan, road bridges between the two countries, as well as large-scale regional projects for the construction of 500 kilowatt power line CASA-1000, the railway Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan.

A constructive discussion took place on the construction of the gas pipeline, Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway China-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran and other promising regional projects.

The need was highlighted to activate the responsible agencies of Tajikistan and Afghanistan in rapid and high-quality implementation of these plans and measures.

Particular attention was paid to security issues, including peace and stability in border areas between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, the joint fight against terrorism, extremism and illegal drug trafficking.

Moreover, among the main topics of the meeting were regional and international issues, including within the UN and SCO, as well as the agenda of the international high-level conference on the results of the Decade for Action "Water for Life".
