Today, President Emomali Rahmon received a group of deputies of the Parliamentary Assembly of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
The meeting discussed issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and NATO, including the issues of regional security and support to the relevant structures of Tajikistan.
It was noted that Tajikistan has a fruitful cooperation with NATO in various spheres, including in terms of military training, language learning, combatting international terrorism, extremism, humanitarian demining, the elimination of weapons, border security, fight against illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, forecasting natural disasters and elimination of their consequences.
Such cooperation is mainly carried out within the program "Partnership for Peace" and "Individual Partnership and Cooperation Programme between Tajikistan and NATO".
Particular attention was paid to cooperation in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan and Tajikistan's border with this neighboring country.
In this regard, President Emomali Rahmon, in particular, said: "Tajikistan supports the initiative of NATO to strengthen cooperation with the countries of the region to the sustainability of peace and stability in Afghanistan".
A constructive discussion also took place on other pressing regional issues, particularly the situation in the Middle East and strengthening of the fight against terrorism and extremism.
The sides expressed confidence that cooperation with NATO will continue to expand in order to further support the security and defense structures of Tajikistan, as well as strengthen security and stability in the region.
